On To-Do Lists and Stretched Goals
Pardon my laziness (or is it efficiency?) Some of the posts are repeats, but the news is valid, and I’m still digging out from my task list. Last month, I reported my to-do list was over 2 pages long. I worked hard all month grinding it down.
It’s still 2 pages long.
It’s like Whack-a-Mole with a hydra. Every time I get one thing done, two more items pop up! I did get a lot done, though.
Of most importance here is that I’ve fully revised and formatted the Madness of Kanaan trilogy +. (Some of you may know it as the Mind Over series.) I gave them a thorough edit, did a little rewrite, and have some awesome new covers coming. I’ve scheduled them for rapid release Jan-Apr 2025.
I also completed and submitted Zach Augustine in Stowaway to Saturn to a major Catholic publisher. It’s a middle-grade Catholic Sci-Fi, and they can reach that audience better than I. I’m trying not to bite my nails as I wait for a reply!
Now, I’m finally getting the next Space Traipse written. I’m starting with a spoof of “Tomorrow is Yesterday.” As often happens in my stories, a new character has popped up. In this case, it’s a crazy 1960s DJ who has seen the Impulsive in the sky and thinks it’s the Moon People. Far out, Man!

Ready for some superhero fun as can only happen in the Vernverse? Gapman is here!
Mild-mannered Ronnie Engleson is an entertainment reporter for both the Faerie and Mundane side of the Gap. On assignment at Faerie’s first superhero play, he accidentally falls into a vat of magically made toxic waste…
…and gets bitten by a radioactive pixie…
…and gets hit by lightning.
No wonder he wakes up the next day with superpowers!
A comic-book nerd from childhood, he’s ready to take on the mantle of superhero and do good for the people of Los Lagos. Ah, if only he were any good at it! Police Captain Santry, ticked off at Gapman’s well-meaning SNAFUs, hires Vern to stop the do-gooder viligante. But Sister Grace has a better idea—let’s train him up!
Join Gapman and Vern as they deal with rival gangs, wasps-of-unusual-size, ninja geese, and a villains both Faerie and Mundane.
Gapman is starting on Saturday and will run a chapter an issue, every Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday. When it’s published, subscribers will get a free copy of the ebook as well.

Writing Classes for the Rest of the Year
How to Use AI in Your Writing (Without AI Writing for You) (September 23)
Writers don’t need to avoid AI. Tools like ChatGPT, Jarvis, and even LeonardoAI can be used cleverly and ethically to help you improve your writing. Karina Fabian covers some of the common and some of the unusual ways AI can help you write without writing for you.
Creature Creation (October 28)
Zombies and monsters and aliens--Oh, my! Creatures are the backbone of any good fantasy, sci-fi, or horror story, but how do you keep them from sounding like something out of Tolkien or the DnD Monster Manual? We'll talk about ways to create fun and unique monsters that work for your story. It's the perfect writing class for Halloween!
Persevere in Your Writing (November 18)
Writers talk about writer’s block, as if it were some kind of outside barrier that gets in the way of your writing. However, writer’s “block” is really more of a dam—a barrier created in your mind that you can tear down. We’ll talk about the different obstacles that prevent us from preserving in our writing and about what we can do to overcome them.
Goal Setting (December 30)
What better way to ring in the new year than deciding your goals for 2025? We’ll look at goal setting: how to make achievable goals, how to break them into steps, and how to manage your time so that you can achieve those goals. Come prepared to plan your year!
