“Well, that was mortifying,” I grumbled as we made our way up the aisle to exit the theater. Snapdragon had finished his explanation, answered all of our questions, and headed back to his queen. I was ready to go home and have a long, hot shower and process how my life had gotten so complex just so someone could have a laugh.
Sister Grace set a sympathetic hand on my arm. “But informative.”
“Maybe. I still don’t get how Hawgin would have gotten powers if it took my running through the Gap and getting struck by lightning.”
“Maybe it wasn’t the lightning so much as the Mundane element,” Vern suggested.
“The Ping, then? Possibly. It does have deleterious effects on elves’ brains. I think our next step is to find Hawgin or Goldleaf, preferably both. But that can wait until tomorrow, don’t you agree, Vern?”
Vern was peering at the entrance. “I don’t think we get a choice. Put on your mask, Gapman. We have company outside.”
I tensed. What now?
